Earth's Oceans are Storing Record-Breaking Amounts of Heat
According to the article, Earth’s oceans are storing record-breaking amounts of heat, oceans are storing a significant amount of heat that is beginning to become uncontrollable. Even though the pandemic caused shut-downs that decreased the amount of greenhouse gas being put into the air, the globe continued to keep warming. Researchers found that last year, the total amount of heat stored in the ocean was the highest it has ever been since 1955. This rapid rise of ocean temperatures is significant because as it rises, ice begins to melt in the oceans, causing storms to supercharge and raise ocean levels. Researchers also say that this will continue to increase if we don't try to reduce carbon emissions. I think that there might be something more than human pollution causing this to happen because the article said that it still began to rise even during the pandemic.

This is interesting to think about because if humans decreased their release of greenhouse gases during the pandemic, why did the global warming still occur. I'd be interested to know by how much it rose and what other factors scientists are looking into that may cause global warming.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an intriguing topic! I find that the ocean is storing heat. However this is scary as well. With the growing struggle of global warming, I hope that the ocean doesn't produce too much heat. There are so many animals and life that thrives in the cold water and climate. I hope the water stays safe for those organisms.
