This Praying Mantis Inflates a Strange Pheromone Gland to Attract Males

There is a praying mantis in the rainforest in Amazonian Peru that inflates a "Y" shaped organ on its back to attract males. This mantis is called, " Stenophylla lobivertex" or otherwise known as the Dragon Mantis. This was discovered by herpetologist Frank Glaw in October 2017. the gland appears to be filled with body fluids and produces pheromones, which is basically a chemical, dating app for the Female mantises to produce for the males. Frank Glaw also says that he thinks that this gland may appear on other Mantises. This mantis species is rare to be found by researchers because of its leaf, and stick-like appearance.

I find this organism very fascinating. The fact that the organism's camouflage is so good that it is rare to be seen so cool. I also like that they are different from the rest with this new gland that hasn't been discovered before. I enjoyed this article because it gives me hope that new things are able to be discovered on earth, in plain sight, or in undiscovered places.
