Stress and Anxiety

A report done on the 6th of January tells about a study showing the relationship of stress and anxiety disorders. In this study, it is shown that stress is a big influence in anxiety and depression. While scientists are unsure which dependent-stressors correlate to which disorder, but they have found that, "high-severity stressful events have distinct links with different dimensions of internalizing psychopathology."(paragraph 3)

I think that this discovery, while limited in its knowledge, will really help when it comes to anxiety-related problems. Knowing that stress is a factor can help with coping with anxiety and even depression.

  1. I think it's great that scientist are doing research on not only anxiety and depression alone, but also what causes them. On that matter, do you think knowing what is a big factor of depression and anxiety will help people prevent themselves from developing it? Do you think that we should help to spread this knowledge to others?

    1. To answer your first question, I believe that while knowing what causes depression and anxiety would help avoid some aspects, not everything can be avoidable. For the second, spreading awareness and knowledge can not only help those who are suffering, but those who aren't can have an easier time understanding what a person is going though.

  2. I feel like most people could relate to this on a personal level. Many people are affected by anxiety and stress disorders. It's good we are starting to know more and more about these things so that we can help people who need it. What are some other things you think we could do to help people deal with the stress and anxiety they feel?

  3. I agree with what Elyse said, a lot of people can understand this on a personal level. Stress definitely does factor into anxiety and depression. Do you think that if people with these mental illnesses get help with time management their stress levels would be less?

    1. I feel like getting help with time management could help to some extent, however, stress comes from everywhere, and perhaps someone's stress isn't mainly from time concerns. It could be a step in the right direction. though.
